The portable icon of the Virgin Mary in the iconographic type “Rhodon to Amaranton” (The Unfading Rose), dated 1771 and painted by the iconographer Stamatis the Cretan, is considered one of the most significant and sacred heirlooms preserved in the Treasury of the Holy Monastery of Toplou in Sitia. Its presence inspires reverence and awe in visitors. The figure of the Virgin is depicted in rosy hues. She is the one who gave birth to the Unfading Rose, Christ.
With the blessings of Our Lady of Akrotiri, the ancient indigenous red grape variety Liatiko has been cultivated for centuries in the Monastery’s organic vineyards, giving us this wonderful rosé wine that bears its name.
